What to Expect on the Day of Liposuction Surgery
Depending on the aesthetic needs and personal preferences of each patient, we might use one of several liposuction techniques, such as ultrasound-assisted liposuction, tumescent liposuction, or laser liposuction. While the precise steps performed during each of these treatments differ, they all are based on the same principles. First, the fat cells are dislodged, and then they are suctioned out of the body. The instruments used during the procedure are very small; therefore, the only incisions are tiny punctures that become practically invisible once the healing is completed.
The liposuction procedure requires anywhere from one to four hours to complete, depending on the area treated and the amount of fat removed. Generally, we recommend that Toronto lipoplasty patients who wish to remove a large amount of fat schedule several sessions with enough time between the sessions to ensure proper healing. This approach reduces the risks that are associated with removing a very large amount of fat at once. The results of liposuction become apparent within a few weeks, once the swelling subsides. However, the final results might not become visible until several months have passed.
While numerous liposuction procedures are performed every year without any complications, like all surgical procedures, there are several risks, such as bleeding, infection, swelling, and minor bruising. During the recovery stage, we regularly meet with our liposuction Toronto patients to assess their progress and address any possible complications. As a result, the vast majority of our patients enjoy stunning results and are highly satisfied with their surgical experience.

Liposuction Recovery
After surgery, you will be monitored in our recovery room until your provider decides that you are safe to be discharged. You will need a family member or friend available to drive you home in case you are still feeling some of the effects of sedation.
You will likely experience some fluid drainage from the incisions so your provider may leave a small drainage tube inserted beneath your skin for a couple of days to control this. You may also be fitted with a snug elastic compression garment to wear over the treated area for a few weeks to manage swelling and help your skin form to its new contours.
During your initial recovery period, you might experience some pain, burning, swelling, bleeding, and temporary numbness. Your provider will prescribe you some temporary medications to prevent infection, reduce swelling, and alleviate any pain.
Usually, patients resume work and their everyday activities about one week after the procedure. Patients should avoid vigorous activities such as exercise for several more weeks as directed.
You will also be sent home with post-surgical care instructions. Please follow them with care and precision.
