Eyelid Lift: How Is It Performed?

At Aviva Cosmetic & Laser Clinic, we usually use general anesthesia when performing eyelid lift surgery. When performing surgery on the upper eyelids, incisions are placed in the natural folds of the lids. When performing surgery on the lower lids, the incisions are placed just below the eyelashes or on the inside of the eyelids. We use the incisions to remove excess fat and skin as well as tighten muscles, if needed, before suturing the skin into its new position. Once healed, the incisions will be well-hidden within the skin’s natural folds and will be virtually unnoticeable.

The surgery is typically completed in two to three hours, and most patients can return home on the same day. Immediately following the surgery, you will experience bruising and swelling, which is normal and can be controlled with prescription medications. For most Toronto eyelid lift patients, the swelling and bruising decreases within two weeks. At this time, you will be able to resume your normal everyday activities. However, the final results of eyelid surgery typically become apparent within a few months after surgery.

The results of eyelid surgery are permanent. You will always look better than if you had not received surgery. However, surgery does not stop the natural aging process. Therefore, you might need touch-up treatments, such as Botox injections or another surgery, in the future.
