What to expect on the day of Tummy Tuck surgery
We perform abdominoplasty under general anesthesia. We begin the procedure by creating an incision in the lower abdominal area. Next, we remove excess skin and fat and repair any torn abdominal muscles. Then we gently stretch and suture the remaining skin to create a smooth, flat stomach. The surgery is typically completed in three to four hours, and most of our abdominoplasty Toronto patients recover within four weeks. However, it might take up to six months for the results to become visible.
During the recovery period, we carefully monitor our patients to promptly address any complications, such as excessive swelling, bruising, and pain. Generally, pain can be controlled with prescription medications, and patients do not experience major discomfort during recovery.
The results of abdominoplasty are permanent, provided that the patient does not gain and lose a large amount of weight. For this reason, we recommend that women not undergo the procedure if they plan to have more children.

Tummy Tuck recovery
After your surgery, you will be able to return home to recover in peace, however, you should have a friend or family member available to give you a ride home. You will have dressings or bandages applied to your incisions and you may also be wrapped in an abdominal binder (elastic bandage or compression garment) to minimize swelling and give underlying muscles in your abdomen additional support. Your surgeon may temporarily insert some small tubes called cannulas under your skin to help drain any blood or fluid that collects.
You will likely be sore during the first week or so and should plan on resting and taking some downtime the first few days post-surgery, this is to reduce scarring and avoid any excess bruising or swelling. You may be able to return to work after a few days but only if you have light work, there should be absolutely no heavy lifting until your surgeon clears you to do so. Most patients require at least two to three weeks before they can do even gentle tasks.
A tummy tuck is a major plastic surgery procedure. Like every other surgical treatment, it includes certain risks, such as infection, bleeding, and recovery complications. However, these risks can be minimized through careful patient preparation.
